Public Workshop - Route 50 Southern Gateway Study
When: January 21, 2010 6 p.m.
Where: Gideon Putnam Hotel Ballroom
Purpose: This workshop is an opportunity for public input and ideas on the Route 50 Southern Gateway Study, a critical gateway into the City of Saratoga Springs. An interactive discussion session using maps and images will guide participants through the process of envisioning improvements and better transportation options throughout this portion of Route 50.
The study’s goal is to develop safe pedestrian, bicycle, and alternative transportation improvements to enhance this gateway to Saratoga Spa State Park and the City of Saratoga Springs.
Who: This is a collaborative effort between the Capital District Transportation Committee (CDTC), New York State Department of Transportation Region 1 (NYSDOT), The Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP), Saratoga County and the City of Saratoga Springs aimed at improving bicycle and pedestrian circulation along the Route 50 corridor. The $70,000 study is funded through CDTC’s 2009-10 Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP) and will be completed by Elan Planning and Design of Saratoga Springs

Proposed Bike Boulevards and Bike Lanes
What are Bike Boulevards?
A bike boulevard is a street that is optimized for cycling traffic while remaining accessible to motorized vehicles.
Official designations and road stenciling historically increase property values on bike boulevards.
By assigning and strictly enforcing lower speeds of 28 mph, bike boulevards are much safer for pedestrians and biking families; they also encourage cyclists of all skill levels to use bikes as a means of transportation.
Map
SHTN members have prepared a proposed map of bike boulevards and lanes for Saratoga Springs. The map is now open for public comment.
